Role Description
Reporting to the Manager of Production Operations, the Manufacturing Engineering Specialist will be responsible for the introduction of products from the Design Engineering team to Production, ensuring that the Production team is well positioned to efficiently manufacture and ship out the Final Product. This includes process improvements, ensuring that Products in design can be manufactured, that workflows and Bills of Operation are maintained, work benches and tooling are set up efficiently, that equipment is maintained, Production staff trained, and Non-Conformances are dealt with appropriately. The ME will also be responsible for ensuring that the ERP is maintained and to improve processes and
efficiency.
Main Tasks
- Lead the day-to-day activities (provide production schedule plan, ensure deliveries are made on
time, support the team, organize training) – discuss and remove - Be responsible for the lab’s cleanliness, FOD and 5S compliance
- Create and update assembly BOIs (Books of Instruction)
- Define and maintain the BOO (Bill of Operation) for all products in production
- Define and maintain the MBOM (Manufacturing Bill of Materials) for Finished Goods in the ERP system
- Responsible for training and certification of the production team on workflows, equipment, technical skills, and other work processes
- Review, approve and integrate new changes from Engineering (ECN/ECO/ECR…)
- Raise Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) to Design Engineering in order to improve efficiency
and quality in Production - Responsible for the selection, supporting supply chain in the purchase, commissioning, calibration, maintenance, and end of life of Production lab equipment, including jigs and fixtures, electronic equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, thermal chambers), visual equipment, spares, etc.
- Design and implement workstation setups and workflows, determining capacities and layouts using spaghetti diagrams, VSMs (Value Stream Maps)
- Define capacity and throughput targets for production benches with the use of time studies, implementing improvements over time with training, optimizing of setups, and automation
- Design induced fault testing with commissioning of test equipment on various Product lines to ensure accurate testing
- Create the As-Built information structure within the ERP platform
- In support of Supply Chain, qualify suppliers for manufacturing, parts, coatings, etc.
- In collaboration with the Supply Chain team, oversee and analyze Non-Conformities from all
suppliers and recommend corrective actions - Own the RMA (return material authorization) process
- Define, implement and improve traceability of boards and barcoded components
- Review all relevant material and approve the exit of PDR/CDR Manufacturing Review and MRR
- Own the production quality processes and measure, improve and correct Non-Conformities
- Track and report on any material losses and identify and implement corrective actions
- Triage and repair Hospital boards that are not able to be repaired by Production, working with Design Engineering where required
- Work with Design Engineering to obtain support for anything related to Test Means
Desireable Knowledge Areas
- High-mix aerospace and high-reliability electronics manufacturing, including PCB assembly and
board-level integration processes - AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems, documentation control, audits, and compliance practices
- ERP systems and manufacturing business processes (experience with Epicor Kinetic is an asset)
- Digital and mixed-signal electronics testing, debug, and fault isolation
- Lean manufacturing concepts (5S, Kaizen, value-stream mapping, waste reduction)
- Production workflow optimization, capacity planning, and time-study methodologies
- Manufacturing test equipment, calibration processes, and environmental stress screening
- Handling and control of electronic components (ESD, moisture sensitivity, component
traceability) - Root-cause analysis techniques (8D, Ishikawa, 5-Whys) applied to non-conformances and RMAs
- Supplier qualification, manufacturing process audits, and technical evaluation of fabrication/assembly vendors
Qualifications
- Engineering degree in Industrial, Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering (or equivalent
technical discipline) - Approximately 8 years of relevant experience in electronics manufacturing, production
engineering, or process engineering - Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining MBOMs, BOOs, work instructions, and
manufacturing documentation - Experience working within AS9100 or similar high-reliability quality frameworks
- Hands-on experience with electronics test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, thermal
chambers, ICT/JTAG tools, etc.) - Proven ability to lead process improvements, implement Lean principles, and optimize
manufacturing flows - Ability to interpret engineering documentation (schematics, assembly drawings, ECNs/ECRs) and
collaborate with design engineering teams - Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills applicable to digital electronics, test processes, and
